Fairfax, Va.--George Mason University's men's soccer team was originally scheduled to play #3 Unversity of Virginia in Charlottesville today, but that game has been postponed due to inclement weather and has been rescheduled for Saturday, Sept. 2 at 2 p.m. to be played at Klöckner Stadium.

The Patriots won their opening game of the 2006 campaign as Mason downed visiting Monmouth by a score of 1-0 in overtime. In the 98th minute of play, freshman defender Richard Edgar (Mechanicsville, Md.) connected on a perfect header which went into the upper right side of the net to seal Mason's victory over the Hawks on Aug. 25. Senior midfielder Josh Fleming (Fairfax, Va.) earned the assist, the fourth of his career, after passing to Edgar from the left side just outside the box. For his efforts against Monmouth, Edgar was named Colonial Athletic Association Rookie of the Week on Aug. 28 by the conference office.

The Cavaliers head into this weekend's competition with a 2-0 record after defeating Davidson and UC Santa Barbara, both by a score of 1-0, in the Virginia Soccer Classic this past weekend in Charlottesville. UVA started the season ranked fourth in the country by Soccer America, as well as NSCAA, and moved up a spot after the opening week of 2006.

In the overall series between UVA, Mason holds an 8-14-3 record against the Cavaliers. The last time these two teams met was on Nov. 7, 1997 and UVA claimed a 3-1 victory in Charlottesville. Mason's last win over the Cavaliers came on Nov. 24, 1996 when the Patriots defeated UVA by a score of 1-0 in the NCAA Tournament.

Mason is scheduled to face La Salle in Philadelphia, Pa. on Sept. 3 at 1 p.m.
