LOS ANGELES - No. 15 George Mason wrapped up its West Coast road swing with a three-game loss to No. 8 UCLA on Saturday night at Pauley Pavilion in Los Angeles, Calif. The loss drops the Patriots to 16-5 on the season, while the Bruins improve to 14-12 with the win.
UCLA won the three games by the final tally of 30-27, 30-24 and 30-28. Junior Steve Klosterman led the Bruins with 14 kills, while redshirt senior Nick Scheftic added 11. Freshman setter Matt Wade had 34 assists and sophomore libero Tony Ker led the team with 10 digs.
Redshirt senior opposite hitter Shaun Powell and redshirt senior setter Bryan Newcomb played well in a losing effort for George Mason. Powell recorded a double-double with a match-high 23 kills and 10 digs, while Newcomb dished out a match-high 38 assists.
The Patriots return home to John Linn Memorial Gym on Thursday, March 23 when they face St. Francis (Pa.) in an EIVA Tait Division match. First serve is scheduled for 7 p.m.
