Semifinals - Game 10
FAIRFAX, Va. (March 10, 2006) - Top-seeded Old Dominion advanced to its 15th-straight CAA Championship game Friday night with a 94-73 semifinal win over fourth-seeded Hofstra at George Mason's Patriot Center. It was the highest scoring CAA tournament game since East Carolina's triple-overtime win over Richmond in 1999, and the highest scoring CAA tournament regulation game since 1998.
The Lady Monarchs improve to 21-8 and will face off against James Madison in Saturday's title game at noon, which will be broadcast on Comcast SportsNet Mid-Atlantic, Comcast SportsNet Philadelphia, Comcast SportsNet Chicago, Fox SportsNet South, Fox-New York, KTVS in Albuquerque, NM, and Sirius Satellite Radio.
Old Dominion was led by T.J. Jordan, who tied a season-high with 23 points after draining 6-of-11 three-pointers. Paula Muxiri added 14, Tish Lyons scored 12, and Lawona Davis netted 10 to round out double-figure scorers for ODU. Angela Brown also tallied a career-high nine.
Hofstra also got double figures from four players, with Lizanne Murphy's season-high 19 leading the way. Vanessa Gidden recorded 18 points and 13 rebounds, including a perfect 10-for-10 from the free throw line. Amaka Agugua socred 12 and Lana Harshaw added 11 for the Pride.
Old Dominion got points from nine different players in the first half as they jumped out to an early lead and never looked back, building the advantage to as much as 18. Jordan had 12 of those points, including three three-pointers, to lead the Lady Monarchs to a 48-34 advantage at the intermission.
ODU shot 58.1 percent from the field for the half to Hofstra's 30 percent, and outscored the Pride on the fast break 11-0. Lizanne Murphy paced the Pride at the break with 11.
The second half saw much of the same, as Old Dominion's shooting got even hotter, increasing to 59.3 percent for the game as a result of 52 points in the paint. Eleven points was as close as the Pride would get during the second period despite holding a 44-41 rebounding edge in the contest.
Hofstra falls to 18-11 with the loss.
