ROMEOVILLE, Ill. - Senior opposite hitter Shaun Powell's 28 kills and .794 hitting percentage led the No. 15 Patriots (9-2) past Lewis University (3-5) Saturday night at the Neil Carey Arena in Romeoville, Ill.
Mason defeated the Flyers three-games-to-zero (34-32, 30-22, 30-28) for their second win of the day. The Patriots defeated Quincy University earlier in the day in four games. Powell had 27 kills in that match, for an impressive total of 55 in the two matches.
As a team, Mason out hit Lewis .560 to .385. The Patriots posted a hitting percentage above .500 in all three games, including a remarkable team hitting percentage of .708 in the second game. Hudson Bates had a hitting percentage of .500 with 13 kills and four digs while Kyle Gramit had a hitting percentage of .533 with nine kills.
George Mason's next scheduled opponent is EIVA Conference rival Rutgers-Newark on Feb. 10. The match is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m. at The Golden Dome in Newark, N.J.
