Holness Tallies Career-High In 83-70 Win Over Georgia State

Atlanta, Ga. -- George Mason registered a season-high point total Friday night in its 83-70 victory over Georgia State in Atlanta, Ga. Junior forward Tracy Ann Holness (Brooklyn, N.Y.) tallied a game-high 25 points for a new career-best. With this Colonial Athletic Association win, Mason improves to 10-15 overall (6-10 CAA), while GSU drops to 8-16 on the year (3-12).

Mason's final 15 points were scored from the line and the Patriots ended the night with a free throw percentage of 89 (25-of-28). In addition, there were a total of 19 baskets made from beyond the arc and Mason banked 10 of them, for a new season-high. In addition, Holness' point total marks a new season-high of points scored by a Patriot in a single game this year.

After being down by five points, Georgia State's largest lead of the first half, Mason scored six unanswered points to give the Patriots a 21-20 lead at the 5:26 mark. Holness scored two of her 25 points of the night with just under three minutes remaining to give Mason a three-point advantage. The lead went back and forth in the closing minutes, but Mason held on and went into intermission with a slight lead over the Panthers (32-31).

The Patriots extended their lead to 44-38 in the opening minutes of the second stanza, which included back-to-back 3-pointers by senior guard Jen Daniels (Brigantine, N.J.) and Holness. Mason went on a 12-0 run to give the Patriots an 11-point lead (63-52) with about seven minutes remaining. Georgia State pulled to within seven, but could not get any closer as the Patriots made all of their free throws in the last two minutes of the game.

Mason shot 40 percent on the night (24-of-60), while GSU was 24-of-68 from the field. The Panthers outrebounded the Patriots, 46-38, while Mason stole the ball 11 times to GSU's five. Including Holness, four Patriots ended the night in double figures - Lateisha Wade scored 22 points, Keyhana Wakefield notched 13, and Daniels finished with 12.

The Patriots will return to action when they host Towson on Feb. 26 for a televise d game on Comcast SportsNet, with tip-off slated for 3 p.m.
