George Mason was unable to extend its winning streak to three matches, falling to the Virginia Commonwealth Rams in three games on Saturday at the Siegel Center in Richmond, Va.
The Patriots entered the match having defeated their last two opponents, UNC Wilmington and William & Mary. They couldn't extend that streak; however, dropping the first game 30-24, the second game 30-27 and the third game 30-25 to VCU.
The loss drops the Patriots to 7-14 overall and 4-11 in conference play. With the win, the defending CAA Champion Rams improve to 13-12 and 7-8 in CAA matches. The two teams split the season series as Mason defeated VCU in four games on Sept. 22 at John Linn Memorial Gym.
Junior outside hitter Jaqueline Kohler was the only Patriot to register double-digit kills in the match, finishing with a team-high 10. Freshman setter Katie Corcoran posted a double-double in the match, with 29 assists and 10 digs, in addition to two aces and three blocks.
Three Rams had double-digit kill totals. Senior outside hitter Ludmila Francescatto finished with a match-high 11, while a pair of sophomore outside hitters, Ana Luiza de Borja and Elisa Kuehnel, both finished with 10. Sophomore setter Cat Juson led all players with 34 assists and sophomore libero Laryssa Concalves had a match-high 16 digs.
The Patriots return to action next weekend when they face the first-place Hofstra Pride on Friday, Nov. 3 at 7 p.m. at John Linn Memorial Gym.
