In 1985-86, the George Mason men's basketball team made the postseason for the first time as the Patriots earned a bid to the National Invitational Tournament. Now, fresh off a trip to the Final Four, one of the greats from the past will become a part of the program's present as Rick Wilson will join Bill Rohland this season to provide color commentary for men's basketball radio broadcasts. Wilson will be in his first season as a color analyst while Rohland will be in his eighth season with the Patriots, second doing play-by-play.

Wilson played at Mason from 1982-86 and the Patriots had a 74-42 record during his tenure, including the school's first two 20-win seasons. He finished his career with 1,505 points, 405 assists, 127 steals and 361 rebounds. He is ninth all-time at Mason in scoring, third in assists, 10th in steals and 26th in rebounds.

Wilson earned a bachelor's degree in communication from Mason in 1986 and he was drafted by the Chicago Bulls with the 52nd pick in the 1986 draft. He played in the Continental Basketball Association the following season then spent the 1987-88 season with the New Jersey Nets and San Antonio Spurs. After playing seven seasons internationally, Wilson retired as a player.

Despite finishing his playing career, Wilson still remained active with professional basketball, first as a sports marketing representative for Nike, then later at Converse. He joined Converse in 2002 and he is currently the company's Global Director of Sports Marketing .

Wilson lives in Bowie, Md. with his wife, Carmen, his son, Kai, and his daughter, Nya.
