Box Score

Harrisonburg, Va. - The George Mason women's soccer team traveled to James Madison on Sunday in a crucial Colonial Athletic Association match and the teams played to a draw in Harrisonburg, as the Patriots and Dukes finished the match tied, 0-0 after a pair of overtime periods. The draw leaves the Patriots still fighting to get into the CAA Tournament, but Mason will not be in charge of its own destiny.

The Patriots (7-9-2, 4-5-1) will conclude the regular season on Friday afternoon at Towson. Should Mason win, the Patriots will need help to get into the six-team CAA Tournament. A Patriot victory, along with a Northeastern win at Hofstra and a Virginia Commonwealth win at James Madison would give the Patriots a one-point edge for the final postseason spot.

Each team had chances on Sunday but neither could convert on a windy, crisp autumn day. James Madison (8-8-2, 4-4-2) had seven shots on goal while Mason had four, but the Patriots also hit the crossbar on one shot and the post on another as neither team pulled any punches on the attack.

The Patriots had a terrific scoring chance late in regulation, but Kelly Keelan's touch shot went just high. In the first overtime, Rachel Wiggins' shot to the near post was smothered at the last second as was Keelan's shot, also to the near post. In the second overtime, L.J. Williams' had a shot hit the crossbar and Wiggins had a terrific cross that couldn't be converted.

For the second straight game, Mason got tremendous play in net from Olivia Brown. The senior collected seven saves on the afternoon and has held the opposition scoreless for the past 204-plus minutes.

James Madison benefited from seven corner kicks to just four from Mason. The Dukes can seal the sixth spot in the CAA Tournament with a win on Friday or with a Hofstra loss or a Mason loss or tie.
