Fairfax, Va (October 12, 2006)--The George Mason basketball teams are hitting the hard-courts in preparations for their 2006-07 campaigns. In an effort to get the fans ready, the athletic department is throwing a "Tip-off Rally" in the community on Saturday, October 21 at Fairfax Corner from 4-5:30 p.m.
"This event is an initiative to get out and have fun in the community," said Andy Ruge, Associate AD for Marketing. "The community embraced the team during the Final Four appearance last season and this is a great way to celebrate with the fans and to get hyped up for this season."
The spirited event will feature insight from head coaches Jim Larranaga and Debbie Taneyhill on what to expect from their respective Patriots squads this season. Last season the men's team made a magical run through the NCAA Tournament and brought the program to national heights and created a lot of excitement nationwide and pride in the community.
Mason's cheerleading and dance teams and the school's pep band will energize the crowd ushering in the new season. Players will be available to sign autographs and talk about their extraordinary experience. The rally will also include music, videos, face painters and an inflatable hoop for the kids.
