On Monday, George Mason junior Laura Salichs became the first defender named CAA Player of the Week this season. On Wednesday, she earned an additional honor as she was selected to SoccerBuzz' National Elite Team of the Week. She is the first player in George Mason history to receive this honor.

Salichs became just the fourth CAA player chosen this year as the team was selected on Wednesday for the seventh time this season. Eighteen players are selected to each team and Salichs was chosen alongside players from national powers such as Notre Dame, North Carolina and USC. She was one of five defenders selected to the squad. Previously, Hofstra's Sue Weber and Marie Curtin were chosen as was William & Mary's Donna Mataya.

Salichs, who hails from Alpharetta, Ga., anchored a Mason defense which earned a pair of shutouts over the weekend and allowed just five shots on goal. The Patriots have a three-match win streak and will look to extend that on Friday when the Patriots take on Old Dominion at George Mason Stadium at 7 p.m.
