Fairfax, Va. - After playing its past three matches in Puerto Rico, George Mason returned to John Linn Memorial Gym Thursday and defeated the University of Puerto Rico-Mayaguez for the second time in the span of a week to improve its record to 4-0 on the season.

With tonight's three-games-to-zero (30-18, 30-22, 30-24) victory, the Patriots have dropped only one game against Mayaguez in two meetings this season. Senior opposite hitter Shaun Powell had another big game against Mayaguez, leading the match with 14 kills. Powell also led the Jan. 19 match with 17 kills.

The Patriots outhit Mayaguez .432 to .162 in the match and recorded 38 assists as a team to 31 for Mayaguez. Redshirt senior Bryan Newcomb led the team in assists with 22, while sophomore Billy Freesmeier had 14.

Mason will host three matches in the next two days at the first-ever Patriot Games tournament. The complete schedule for the tournament is as follows:

On Jan. 27, admission to the tournament is $5 for adults, $2 for youth and senior citizens and $1 per ticket for groups of 10 or more. On Jan. 28, admission will be $7 for adults, $4 for youth and senior citizens and $3 per ticket for groups of 10 or more.
