Fairfax, Va. - The George Mason men's volleyball team will attempt to build upon the success of last season when it opens its season Saturday at 4 p.m. against Lees-McRae at the John Linn Memorial Gym.

The Patriots finished last season with a 19-10 record and number 14 ranking in the AVCA Men's Coaches Top 15 Poll. Mason finished second in the EIVA during the regular season and in the tournament.

Three returning players looking to make an impact this season will be opposite hitter Shaun Powell (R-Sr.), a first team All-EIVA performer last season, outside hitter Hudson Bates (R-So.), a second team All-EIVA performer and Newcomer of the Year Award winner and middle blocker Matt Steinfurth (Sr.), a second team All-EIVA performer.

In addition to the season opener on Saturday, the current team will also play an exhibition against a team of former George Mason volleyball players Friday at 7:30 p.m.
