Box Score

Fairfax, Va.--Junior midfielder Josh Fleming (Fairfax, Va.) helped secure George Mason University's 2-1 victory over Philadelphia University (1-1) as he netted his first collegiate goal and the game-winner in the 79th minute Sunday afternoon in a non-conference men's soccer match-up at George Mason Stadium.

Mason senior Karim Manneh (F; Banjul, Gambia) started off the scoring as he took a shot off of a pass from junior defender Jacob Weitz (Lovettsville, Va.) about five yards out at the 48:46 mark. The goal is Manneh's ninth as a Patriot and it is the second career assist for Weitz.

Philadelphia responded quickly as sophomore midfielder Mike Millar sent one in the net off of a pass from junior forward Matt Tompkins at 49:34 to tie the game.

But with about 10 minutes remaining in the contest, Fleming gave Mason the lead after he scored off of a header from sophomore forward Dan Ames (Livonia, N.Y.) for Ames first career assist.

Freshman goalkeeper Jeremy Jessup (Lockport, N.Y.) played the entire 90 minutes in the net for the Patriots and tallied eight saves in the win, while Philadelphia's freshman Charles Custer allowed two goals and earned six saves.

The Patriots will return to action when they compete at the adidas/Brown Soccer Classic in Providence, R.I. Mason will first face Connecticut on Sept. 9 (5 p.m.) and will then square-off against host-school, Brown, on Sept. 11 (2:30 p.m.).
