Men's Soccer Ends in Scoreless Tie

Fairfax, Va.--George Mason University's men's soccer team played in its third-overtime game of the 2005 campaign, which ended in a scoreless tie against Virginia Commonwealth Friday evening in the Colonial Athletic Association opener for both teams. Mason's overall record now stands at 4-3-1 (0-0-1 CAA), while VCU owns a 2-6-1 overall mark (0-0-1).

Senior forward Teba McKnight (Couva, Trinidad) led the Patriots in shots with eight, while junior Josh Fleming (MF; Fairfax, Va.) collected five on the night. Three Mason athletes tallied two shots on goal a piece against the Rams in freshman midfielder Jonathan Borrajo (Clifton, N.J.), forward Karim Manneh (Sr.; Banjul, Gambia) and freshman Lucas Pardew (F; Parkton, Md.).

Senior forward Dominic Oduro, one of 25 athletes on the 2005 Missouri Athletic Club Hermann Trophy Watch List, led the Rams in shots on goal with two, while senior midfielder Mike Aust added a single shot on goal for VCU.

Goalkeeper Eric Barnes (Fr.; Aiken, S.C.) was in the net all 110 minutes for the Patriots and tallied three saves in the tie. Freshman goalkeeper Andrew Dykstra played the entire contest and collected nine saves for the Rams.

The overall series between Mason and VCU now stands at 6-6-7 and the Patriots own a 4-2-2 record when playing against the Rams at George Mason Stadium. The last time these two teams ended in a scoreless tie was on Oct. 22, 2002 in Fairfax.

The Patriots will return to action when they travel to Harrisonburg, Va. to face James Madison on Oct. 2 at 2 p.m. for Mason's first road game since Sept. 11.
