Mason's junior Francis McCardle (MF; Fairfax, Va.) evened up the score in the 41st minute as his header from five yards out off of a pass from senior Karim Manneh (F; Banjul, Gambia) made it in the lower right corner of the net.
With about 20 minutes remaining in the contest, junior forward Arturo Pedroso took a pass from sophomore midfielder Greg McKay. Pedroso weaved through the Patriot defenders from the top of the box and was able to outstep Eric Barnes (Fr.; Aiken, S.C.) as his shot sailed into the net to give the Colonials the game-winning goal.
Barnes played the entire 90 minutes in the net for the Patriots and collected one save on the night, while GWU's senior goalkeeper Derek Biss tallied seven saves.
The Patriots will return to action when they host La Salle on Sept. 20 at 7 p.m.
