Patriots Win Second Straight Women's Volleyball Match

Harrisonburg, Va. - The George Mason women's volleyball team has its first two-match winning streak of the season, and the Patriots were able to accomplish it by playing terrific defense, as Mason defeated Iona, 30-28, 28-30, 30-28, 30-23. The Patriots had 62 digs and nine total team blocks and allowed Iona to hit just .072 as Mason improved to 3-6 on the season.

Jaqueline Kohler had 18 kills, Natalia Porosa had 15 kills and Janelle Wilson added 10 kills with a .296 hitting percentage as Mason hit .188 in the match, including .382 in the critical third game. Chantal Bodkin-Clarke added eight kills and five block assists while Zulma Rojas had a team-high 16 digs. Porosa added 14 digs, Kohler had 12 digs and Chelsea Kropp had 26 assists and nine digs. Sarah Hipps added 23 assists.

Miki Hogg led Iona with 14 kills and seven block assists while Morgan Young had 11 kills. Shannon Lee and Chelsea White each had 18 digs while Megan Dailey added 14 digs. The Gaels, however, managed to hit no better than .102 in any game.

After playing five straight matches on the road, the Patriots will now play three straight at home. On Tuesday, Mason will host George Washington at 7 p.m. On Friday, the Patriots will welcome Georgia State to Fairfax for the first time as a CAA foe. On Saturday, UNC Wilmington comes to Mason. Both weekend matches are also scheduled for 7 p.m.
