Sept. 16, 2005

Fairfax, Va.--George Mason University (2-2) will host George Washington (2-0-1) for a men's soccer non-conference match-up on Sept. 17 (7 p.m.) at George Mason Stadium. The contest against the Colonials is a featured "Broadside Game of the Week". Mason students will receive a free soda cooler and will also be entered into the "Pimp My Room" sweepstakes.

Heading into this weekend's match-up, senior forward Karim Manneh (Banjul, Gambia) leads the Patriots in goals and points with three and six, respectively. Manneh recorded one of his goals in Mason's 2-1 loss against #8 Connecticut at the adidas/Brown Soccer Classic on Sept. 9 in Providence, R.I. Manneh was also the lone Patriot to score against Brown as Mason dropped a 3-1 decision in the adidas/Brown Soccer Classic finale.

Junior Francis McCardle (MF; Fairfax, Va.) is currently tied for first in the league in shots with 14, while Manneh is tied for first in goals with three. Freshman goalkeeper Jeremy Jessup (Lockport, N.Y.) stands alone at the No. 1 slot among his conference peers in saves with 27 through four games.

Senior forward Andre Chapman leads the Colonials in both goals (2) and points (4), while senior midfielder Steve Brown has dished out the most assists for the Colonials with two. Four other GWU players have each scored one goal through three games, including sophomore midfielder Greg McKay and junior forward Arturo Pedroso who each have one assist on the season as well.

The Patriots hold a 20-10-2 advantage in the overall series against the Colonials and have won the past 10 meetings against GWU dating back to 1993. Mason's last loss to GWU came on Sept. 18, 1991 when the Colonials claimed a 3-1 victory in Fairfax, Va. The last time these two teams squared off at George Mason Stadium, the Patriots won by a score of 3-2 on Sept. 13, 2003.
