Rachel Wiggins scored three goals and dished out an assist last week against St. Joseph's. On Monday night, she was honored for that performance, and Mason's 2-0 week, as Wiggins was named the Colonial Athletic Association's Women's Soccer Player of the Week.
Wiggins became just the fifth player in Mason school history to record a hat trick in a match as she scored once in the first half and twice in the second half of a 6-1 win over St. Joseph's. The six goal was Mason's highest goal total since a 6-2 win over Old Dominion on Oct. 22, 1999. The five-goal margin of victory was also the largest margin of victory for Mason since an 8-2 win over Richmond on Oct. 10, 1998.
On the week, Mason defeated the Hawks and added a 1-0 road win at Arkansas. So far this season, Mason has played Mountain West, WAC, Atlantic-10, Patriot League and SEC schools. Mason has now won three straight and will host Ivy League power Yale on Friday at 7 p.m. The Patriots have won three straight. Yale has currently won three straight and plays at Mount St. Mary's on Tuesday.
