Waipahu, Hawai'i - The George Mason women's soccer team struggled on the field on Saturday night and the result was a disappointing 4-0 loss to Brigham Young University during the second evening of the OHANA Hotels & Resort No Ka Oi at the Waipio Peninsula Soccer Stadium in Hawai'i. BYU (1-0-0) successfully opened their season, while handing the Patriots (0-2-0) their second loss in as many nights.

The Cougars dominated from the outset, scoring a pair of goals in each half. BYU out-shot George Mason, 23-3 and held the advantage in corner kicks, 7-2.

It didn't take long for BYU to get on the board as Natalie Nate sent a straight-away rocket from 35 yards into the goal at the 6:15 mark. Less than 10 minutes later, Carolyn Swenson stole a Patriots pass and hit a left-footed shot from close range to make it 2-0. The Cougars could very well have led 3-0 at the break, but had a penalty kick in the 31st minute hit off the post.

The second half saw two more BYU goals, both off set pieces. On a free kick, Jamie Beck fed Brooke Thulin who bent a shot past Patriot goalie Olivia Brown in the 79th minute. In an almost carbon copy finish two minutes later, Jessica Harmon scored off a corner kick with assists from Amberlea Anderson and Annie Zwahlen.

The Patriots return East to face American (0-1) on Tuesday at 3 p.m.
