Fairfax, Va.--George Mason University's women's volleyball team fell to Georgetown in five games (30-25, 26-30, 25-30, 30-27, 14-16) Saturday evening at the John Linn Gymnasium in the first match of the 2005 campaign for both teams.

Senior outside hitter Natalia Porosa (Scarborough, Ontario) collected a double-double as she amassed 10 digs and tallied a team-high 17 kills on the night. Sophomore Jaqueline Kohler (OH; Curitiba, Brazil) also garnered double-digit kills as she nailed 15, along with nine digs. Freshman Chelsea Kropp (Papillion, Neb.) played in her first collegiate game and amassed 51 assists, while senior opposite hitter Niki Bernardes (King George, Va.) added 11 kills in the loss. Middleblocker Janelle Wilson (Jr.; Towanda, Kan.) tallied a new career-high in block solos as she recorded five, along with five block assists.

Georgetown's senior opposite hitter Jenny Weed led all players with 24 kills, while senior outside hitter Rachel Nelson amassed 17 and added 15 digs. Freshman outside hitter Jessica Buffum also had a double-double for GU with 13 kills and 11 digs, while sophomore outside hitter Katie Nulty had 15 digs in the Hoyas 3-2 win.

The Patriots garnered a .166 hitting percentage on the night to the Hoyas .149, but Mason totaled 17 service errors while GU had only nine in the five-game match. Both teams recorded their best single-game hitting percentage in game four as the Patriots hit .375, while the Hoyas garnered a .382 percentage.

Mason will return to the court for its own Patriot Invitational Sept. 2-3. The Patriots will first face Texas Christian on Sept. 2 (8 p.m.) and will then compete against Loyola (Md.) at 3 p.m. and Cal Poly at 8 p.m. the following day.
