ARLINGTON, VA - For the second straight day, the George Washington University (16-10) offense produced double-digit runs as the Colonials put away George Mason University 11-5 Wednesday afternoon at Barcroft Park.
After defeating Norfolk State University 10-1 on Tuesday, the GW bats cranked out 12 hits and 11 more runs Wednesday as four Colonials drove in multiple runs.
GW trailed 2-1 heading into the bottom of the third inning when right fielder Brad Rosenblat connected for his second home run (8) in as many days as he launched a two-run shot to put the Colonials ahead 3-2 and give them a lead they would not relinquish.
In the last two games Rosenblat, while batting lead off, has produced seven RBIs and two home runs.
GW made it 5-2 in the fourth inning when designated hitter Josh Goldberg singled in a run and shortstop Michael Parker got a run home when he grounded out to second base with a man on third and less than two outs.
The Colonials added three more runs in the fifth inning with a double and two singles and put three more on the board in the sixth when catcher Joe Michalski slammed a two-run homer (7) and second baseman Mickey Shupin came all the way around to score from first on first baseman Ryan Roberson's base hit, giving GW a 11-3 lead.
Roberson went 3-for-4 in the contest with a double, three runs scored and an RBI.
The Patriots (17-7) cut the lead to 11-5 in their half of the seventh inning but that's as close as they would get.
Centerfielder Matt Cooksey served terrorized the Colonials with a double, three singles, four stolen bases and three runs scored.
LHP Dan Sullivan (4-3) took the start for GW and was effective, allowing three earned runs in 5.2 innings of work.
LHP Jared Petrovich (0-1) started for Mason and was touched-up for six runs and five walks in his 4.1 innings.
The Colonials welcome Atlantic 10 foe St. Bonaventure to Barcroft Park this weekend as the two teams square off for a doubleheader Saturday and a single game Sunday. Both days action gets underway at 12:00 pm.
