George Mason Athletics Men's Volleyball 3/10/2005 12:00:00 AM

March 10, 2005

The George Mason men's volleyball team had a sub-par road trip last week but the Patriots still had a pair of highlights worth talking about. First, Felix Campos earned his 1,000th kill in the Patriots' loss at Princeton on Sunday. Then, Mason's Matt Steinfurth was honored as the Eastern Intercollegiate Volleyball Association's Player of the Week for the week ending March 6.

Steinfurth, a junior middle hitter from Portsmouth, Va., averaged 2.13 kills per game, 1.44 blocks per game, .63 digs per game and hit .568 on the week. Against Juniata, he had 10 kills on 14 attacks, against NYU he had six kills and no errors on eight attacks, against Rutgers-Newark he had seven kills, five digs and seven block assists and against Princeton, he had 11 kills, two assists, three service aces, a pair of digs and nine block assists. For the season, Steinfurth is averaging 2.07 kills per game, 1.51 blocks per game and hitting .507.

Campos reached 1,000 kills against Princeton, a milestone that he was the first to achieve at Mason since the rally-scoring era began in 2001. Campos not only holds the career rally-scoring era kills record at Mason, but also the single-season rally-scoring record. Last year, he recorded 455 kills.

The 14th-ranked Patriots are in action again this weekend when they take on New Jersey Institute of Technology on Friday at 7 p.m. and 15th-ranked Lewis on Saturday at 7 p.m.
