RICHMOND, Va. - Montgomery County, Md. has two more reasons to be excited as two of its own, Tony Skinn (Takoma, Park, Md./Takoma Academy) and Folarin Campbell (Silver Spring, Md./Springbrook), swept the Colonial Athletic Association weekly men's basketball honors, the league announced Monday for all games played Jan. 24-30. Skinn was named co-Player of the Week and Campbell was selected Rookie of the Week.
It is Skinn's first-ever CAA weekly award. The 6-1 junior guard averaged 19.5 points, 7.0 rebounds and 5.0 assists in leading George Mason to a pair of conference wins last week. Skinn had 21 points, a career-high 10 rebounds and a game-high six assists as the Patriots topped William & Mary, 95-62, earning Skinn his first career double-double. He poured in a team-high 18 points with four boards and four assists as Mason beat Hofstra 94-78. For the week, Skinn shot 52% from the floor, hit 6-of-10 three-pointers, connected on 88% of his free throws, and had only two turnovers.
This is Campbell's second Rookie of the Week honor this season. He also nabbed the award on Dec. 27. Campbell averaged 14.0 points, 2.0 rebounds and 3.0 assists in last week's two conference wins. The freshman guard exploded off the bench for a game- and career-high 23 points in just 19 minutes in the Patriots' win over William & Mary, going a perfect 8-for-8 from the floor and 4-for-4 from 3-point range with three assists. He also had five points, three rebounds and three assists in 15 minutes in a win over Hofstra. For the week, Campbell was 75.0 percent from the floor, 80 percent from 3-point range and 75 percent from the free throw line.
George Mason (10-8, 5-4 CAA) looks to extend its three-game win streak with a victory Monday evening against visiting Delaware.
