RICHMOND, Va. - While the seeds are not yet final, the pairings are set for the 2005 CAA Men's Basketball Championship, which will be held March 4-7 at the Richmond Coliseum.
In first-round action on Friday, March 4, James Madison will meet William & Mary at 5:30 p.m., followed by #7 Delaware versus #10 Towson at 8:00 p.m.
In quarterfinal play on Saturday, March 5, #1 Old Dominion will face the JMU/W&M winner at noon, followed by Drexel versus Hofstra at 2:30 p.m. In the evening session, #2 Virginia Commonwealth will play the Delaware/Towson winner at 6 p.m., followed by #3 UNC Wilmington against #6 George Mason at 8:30 p.m.
The two semifinal games will take place at 3 p.m. and 5:30 p.m. on Sunday, March 6, with the championship game set for 7 p.m. on Monday, March 7.
Seeds will become final pending the outcome of Monday night's game between Drexel and Towson. A victory by Drexel would give them the #4 seed, while a loss would make Hofstra the #4 seed. Towson will be the #10 seed regardless of Monday's outcome, but a Tigers win would make William & Mary the higher seed in its first-round game with JMU. Otherwise, the Dukes will be the #8 seed.
In Saturday's CAA action, Drexel edged Delaware 86-80, Hofstra won its sixth in a row with a 75-52 win over George Mason, William & Mary snapped a 14-game road losing streak with a 57-50 victory at Towson, ODU earned its 25th win with an 82-60 triumph at JMU and VCU rallied for a 72-71 overtime win against UNCW in a battle for the #2 seed.
