PHILADELPHIA - Drexel had five players score in double figures as the Dragons defeated George Mason 78-66 Wednesday evening in Colonial Athletic Association men's basketball action at the Daskalakis Center. The Dragons (15-10, 10-6) sweep the season series from the Patriots (16-11, 10-7) for the first time in 10 meetings.
Junior guard Tony Skinn (Takoma Park, Md.) led three Patriots in double figures with 17 points. Junior forward Jai Lewis (Aberdeen, Md.) scored 14 points and added six rebounds, two assists and two blocked shots. Junior guard Lamar Butler (Oxon Hill, Md.) recorded 13 points.
Drexel went on an 12-4 run in the final 4:11 to increase its lead to eight at the half, 36-28. The Dragons continued the run in the start of the second half as guard Jeremiah King, who led all scorers with 19 points, nailed one of his four 3-pointers and then scored on a driving lay-up to increase the lead to 13 points. The Patriots cut the deficit to seven points several times in the second period, but couldn't get any closer.
Guard Phil Goss made three 3-pointers for the Dragons and finished with 17 points. Guard Bashir Mason added 12 to go along with his game-high 10 assists and also had six boards. Forward Sean Brooks was limited to 11 points, while Kenell Sanchez chipped in with 10 points off the bench.
The Dragons shot 51 percent for the game and made 10 three-pointers for the third game in a row. Drexel, which entered the game last in the CAA in rebounding, out rebounded George Mason, 35-25. Forward Chaz Crawford totaled a game-high 13 boards as the Dragons pulled down 14 offensive caroms.
Mason shot 50 percent in the contest and was 7-for-14 from long range.
George Mason visits Hofstra Saturday at 4 p.m. in its final regular season game before the CAA Tournament.
