RICHMOND, Va. - George Mason University's John Vaughan (Lanham, Md./Laurel) was named the Colonial Athletic Association men's basketball Rookie of the Week for all games played Monday, Feb. 7 through Sunday, Feb. 13, the league announced Monday (Feb. 14). It is Vaughan's first rookie of the week award from the CAA and the fourth this season for the Patriots, who have three freshmen averaging over 15 minutes of playing time per game and a fourth playing roughly eight minutes per outing.

Vaughan joins Mason freshmen Will Thomas (Jan. 17) and Folarin Campbell (Dec. 27 and Jan. 31) as recipients of the CAA Rookie of the Week award.

Vaughan was the second leading scorer for the Patriots, averaging 19.0 points, 3.5 rebounds, 2.0 assists and 2.0 steals to help lead George Mason to a pair of CAA road victories last week. The freshman guard scored a career-high 17 points as the Patriots beat Towson and then set a new mark with 21 points in Mason's double-overtime triumph at W&M, scoring 18 in the second half and two overtimes. Vaughan connected on 60.9 percent (14-of-23) of his shots from the floor, including 7-of-13 (53.8 percent) from 3-point range.

Vaughan has started the last 10 games of the season, including Monday night's contest at Va. Commonwealth, and has seen action in all 24 games. He is fourth on the team in scoring at 7.6 points per contest averages 3.0 rebounds. Vaughan, who is shooting 42.4 percent from the floor and 35.9 percent from 3-point range, is also 73.0 percent from the free throw line and has 35 assists and 21 steals. He is averaging 11.0 points over the last eight games.
