Fairfax, Va.--Seven Patriots netted double figures to help lead George Mason University's women's basketball team to a 101-61 victory in an exhibition match-up Sunday afternoon against M.I. Express 2 at the Patriot Center.
Junior forward Tracy Ann Holness (Brooklyn, N.Y.) led Mason with 17 points and grabbed a team third-best six rebounds, while senior guard Jen Daniels (Brigantine, N.J.) poured in 15 on the afternoon, all of which came from 3-point field goals. Sophomore guard Keyhana Wakefield (Albany, N.Y.) dished out a team-high seven assists, while sophomore forward Moni Akintunde (Laurel, Md.) grabbed a team-best nine boards for the Patriots.
Lawanda Newman led M.I. Express 2 in points with 14, while Candice Edwards pulled down a game-high 12 boards on the afternoon. Juel Woodard added 13 points, after shooting 7-10 from the free throw line, and also amassed three steals.
The Patriots shot 48 percent (33-68) on the afternoon, while M.I. Express 2 was 20-67 from the floor (30 percent). Mason had a 54-40 advantage on the boards, while M.I. Express 2 garnered 12 steals to the Patriots' eight.
Mason will return to action when the Patriots open up their regular season at home against Mount St. Mary's on Nov. 19 at 3 p.m.
