Box Score

The George Mason women's volleyball team traveled to Wilmington on Friday night looking to snap its seven-match losing streak by extending a personal winning streak stretching back more than 10 years. The last time Mason lost to the Seahawks was in 1992, 24 matches ago. But Mason was unable to extend that winning streak or snap their current losing streak as the Seahwaks earned their first Colonial Athletic Association win of the year, downing Mason, 30-26, 23-30, 30-25, 28-30, 15-8.

The Patriots got a career-high 21 kills from Chantal Bodkin-Clarke and a trio of players recorded 20 or more digs, but Mason hit just .163, .098 and -.100 in the three games it lost, rendering moot the quality defense and strong production in the middle.

Outside hitters Jaqueline Kohler and Niki Bernardes combined for 23 kills but 22 errors as well on 98 attacks. They did, however, add 20 and 21 digs, respectively. Zulma Rojas added 20 digs. Bodkin-Clarke hit .390 and middle hitter Janelle Wilson hit .200 with 12 kills. They each had five block assists, as did Bernardes. Wilson and Bodkin-Clarke were the only Mason players to hit better than .120.

The Seahawks (5-18, 1-13) got 17 kills from Kate Bennett, who hit .164. Kristin Maier had 13 kills and Felicity Ribalkin had 10 kills and hit .333. Maier added eight total blocks, Ribalkin had 21 digs and as a team UNC Wilmington compiled 14 total team blocks.

The Patriots (4-16, 1-12) return to action on Sunday when they play at Georgia State at 2 p.m.
