Box Score

WILLIAMSBURG, VA. -- William and Mary senior forward Lydia Sturgis scored two goals, and freshman forward Claire Zimmeck scored her team-leading tenth goal of the year and assisted on another as the Tribe women's soccer team ended the regular season with a 3-0 win over George Mason on Senior Day at Albert-Daly Field. With the win, the Tribe improves to 7-4-8 and 5-3-3 in the CAA, while the Patriots end its season with an 8-11-0 mark and a 4-7-0 ledger in the CAA.

With the win, the Tribe qualifies for the CAA Tournament as the sixth seed and will go on the road to face the third-seeded Delaware Fightin' Blue Hens Tuesday night in Newark.

The Tribe took the lead in the 14th minute as Zimmeck scored her tenth goal of the year. Midfielder Tiffany Chudoba blocked a Patriots clearing attempt in the Mason zone, where it was gathered by Emily Kittleson down the right flank. Kittleson dribbled down the right side and sent a cross to Zimmeck, who was gathered the pass, spun around and fired a left footed shot into the lower left corner of the net to give W&M a 1-0 lead.

Sturgis added an insurance goal in the 70th minute, as Hogwood crossed a pass from the middle of the field into the box to Zimmeck, who back heeled a lob forward to Sturgis. Sturgis muscled off two defenders and flicked in a shot into the right corner of the net to stretch the lead to 2-0.

The Tribe closed the scoring in the 79th minute when Sturgis buried a penalty kick past Mason goalkeeper and Williamsburg resident Kasey Davenport. Sturgis's tally came after Zimmeck got behind the Mason defense and was taken down by a Patriot defender just inside the box.

W&M held a 5-0 advantage in corner kicks. Goalkeeper Kellie Fenton collected four saves for the Tribe before exiting the match in favor of classmate Kathleen Belk, who played the final 4:53. It was Fenton's fourth shutout of the year and her second in a row.
