Box Score

It was senior day for the George Mason women's soccer team with a quartet of four-year letter-winners taking the field for the Patriots looking to give the crowd a win to remember until the next home game, sometime early in the 2006 season.

Thanks to an aggressive offense and a pair of Drexel fouls in the box, Mason was able to take a 2-0 win in Colonial Athletic Association action at George Mason Stadium. Sophomore Jessica Paris scored her third goal of the year on a penalty kick 23:23 into the match and sophomore Sarah Fack headed in her fourth goal of the year in the 80th minute on an assist from senior Amy Alecci.

The Patriot backline and midfield played enough defense in front of Kasey Davenport to get Mason a critical CAA win. Davenport finished the match with 4 saves. The Dragons mounted several runs but either shot the ball wide or were chased down by Mason defenders.

The Patriots were unable to capitalize on a penalty kick early in the match when senior Kristin Portell's kick went wide. It was just a few minutes later that Paris got her chance and she converted in the right corner of the net past Drexel goal keeper Kaitlin Bond. Bond was excellent in the net, recording 10 saves on the day. She was unable to stop Fack's header, though, as Alecci pinpointed her pass from the left side to a cutting Fack.

The Patriots were dominant throughout the match as Mason took 24 shots to Drexel's 8. The Patriots also had 12 corner kicks to Drexel's 3. The Patriots committed 12 fouls to Drexel's 4 but none in the box.

The win keeps Mason's postseason hopes alive. The Patriots improved to 8-9-0, 4-5-0. Their 12 points put them just outside the conference's top half. Six teams will play in the CAA Championships which begin the first Tuesday in November. Mason has two games remaining, road matches at Old Dominion and William & Mary on Thursday and Saturday, respectively.

Drexel fell to 7-9-1, 2-6-0. The loss eliminates the Dragons from contention for a spot in the postseason conference tournament.

The Mason players to appear in their final home match as Patriots were Amy Alecci, Danielle MacDonald, Kristin Portell and Amy Sorenson.
