NEWARK, DE - George Mason sophomore forward Dan Ames scored the lone goal of the game at the 72:06 mark to help propel the Patriots to a 1-0 victory over the University of Delaware (1-10-3, 0-6-1 CAA) in a Colonial Athletic Association match-up Friday evening in rainy, cold and muddy conditions at Delaware Mini-Stadium.
The game's only goal came when Mason freshman defender Hugh Fike crossed the ball through the middle of the box from the right side with Ames waiting on the left. Ames then fired a shot past Delaware keeper Chris Jones to give the Patriots (5-5-4, 1-2-4 CAA) the lead and ultimately the win.
With just over 14 minutes remaining, Delaware's Sobhan Tadjalli's shot aimed inside the left post was stopped on a diving save by Eric Barnes. Just over three minutes later, Barnes made a similar save on Eric Shadoff. With only 17 seconds remaining in the game, Barnes made his final save with a stop on a mid-range shot by Bill Paugh.
Delaware outshot the Patriots 9-6 for the game but were unable to beat Barnes. He made six saves to post his fifth shutout of the season. Jones made two saves for Delaware, who suffered their sixth consecutive loss.
