Fairfax, Va.--George Mason University's men's soccer team played to a 2-2 draw in a Colonial Athletic Association match-up against UNC Wilmington Friday night at George Mason Stadium. With this tie, the Patriots now own an overall record of 4-4-4 (0-1-4 CAA), while UNC Wilmington stands at 5-4-2 (0-1-2).
This marks the sixth overtime game of the 2005 season for the Patriots and their third-straight tie, which is a new school record.
Senior forward Kephern Fuller (Marietta, Ga.) scored his first goal of the season at the 9:49 mark as he took a pass from forward Teba McKnight (Sr.; Couva, Trinidad). Fuller took a shot from the top of the box which made it into the lower left corner of the net to put the Patriots ahead, 1-0. This was the first goal for the Patriots since their 1-0 overtime win against Penn State on Sept. 24.
UNCW junior midfielder Chris Murray tied the game in the 64th minute as he fired off a shot to the right side, just outside the box, from senior midfielder Joe Lazorchick.
With just under five minutes remaining in regulation, McKnight took a shot from the left side of the goal line and watched it enter the net off of a deflection from the Seahawks' senior defender Dustin Efird. UNCW responded with under a minute left as senior forward Sam Leger tied the game as he nudged the ball in off of a cross pass from junior midfielder Kevin Weis.
Goalkeeper Eric Barnes (Fr.; Aiken, S.C.) saw action the entire contest for the Patriots and tallied one save on the evening and junior Brad Knighton collected two saves for the Seahawks.
The Patriots will return to action when they host Georgia State on Oct. 16 at 1 p.m.
