Final Stats

PROVIDENCE, R.I. - The George Mason (1-2-1) women's soccer team dropped its second straight road match Sunday afternoon, falling at non-conference opponent Brown (2-0-0) by a score of 2-0 at Stevenson Field. The Bears notched one goal in each period en route to the win.

Freshman Anne Friedland scored her first career goal in the 37th minute to give the Bears a 1-0 lead. After nearly an entire half of scoreless action, during which George Mason pressured Brown relentlessly, the Bears broke the 0-0 tie at 36:25 with Friedland's goal. Junior co-captain Meghan Schreck controlled the ball near the left sideline and crossed it to Friedland, who dribbled by her defender and fired the ball past Patriot sophomore goalkeeper Olivia Brown (Des Moines, Wash.) into the opposite corner of the net for the 1-0 lead.

Less than 10 minutes into the second half, the Bears took a 2-0 lead when freshman Andrea Pagnanelli netted her first career goal. After the ball deflected out of the box off a Mason defender, Pagnanelli lofted the shot roughly 25 yards out into the top left corner, giving Brown a two-goal advantage.

The Patriots pressured Brown again during the final 20 minutes of the game, but the Bears' defense held on until the final whistle.

Brown corralled three saves for the Patriots. In net for the Bears, junior Hillary Wilson stopped nine shots to earn her second straight shut out. Mason out shot Brown, 18-7.

George Mason returns home on Sept. 9 and 11 as hosts of the George Mason/Burger King Invitational, which also includes William & Mary, Harvard and Georgetown. The Patriots host Harvard at 7 p.m. Thursday and are back at George Mason Stadium Saturday for a 2:30 p.m. tilt against area foe Georgetown. Prior to Thursday's match-up, William & Mary takes on Georgetown at 5 p.m., while on Saturday, the Tribe faces Harvard at noon.
