Box Score

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa.- Senior goalkeeper John O'Hara recorded his fourth shut-out of the season to help lead the Patriots (4-3-1) to a scorelss tie with No. 3 Penn State (5-0-4) Tuesday evening at Jeffrey Field.

This is the fourth top-25 team Mason has faced thus far this season and now hold a 1-2-1 record against those opponents. In addition, this tie mimicks the Patriots' effort last season against North Carolina, ranked No. 5 at the time, as the two teams played to a 0-0 draw right before conference play began for Mason.

Mason recorded four shots on goal for the evening, while PSU amassed only two. Senior Matt Mendy led the Patriots with two, while seniors Danny Climo and Damien Quinn each added one.

The game was fairly even all around as the Nittany Lions had only a slight advantage over Mason in shots, 11-10, as well as corner kicks, 9-8.

With 14:49 remaining in regulatoin, the Patriots had a 2-on-1 breakaway as two forwards were coming down the left and right flank, but Penn State freshman defender Stephen Reihner broke up the scoring opportunity to assist freshman goalkeeper Conrad Taylor.

Senior Joe Zewe had chance about two minutes later for PSU, but O'Hara made another puma-like diving stop for the Patriots.

The Nittany Lions, who played their third game in five days, went into overtime for the seventh time in nine contests this season and extended its national-best unbeaten streak to 12 games with the tie.

The Patriots will return to action when they host Delaware on Friday (Oct. 1) at 7 p.m. for the first of a six-game homestand.
