Box Score

Natalia Porosa was nearly perfect on Saturday in second-day action at the 2004 Patriot Invitational and her teammates gave her more than enough support as the George Mason women's volleyball team rebounded from a straight-set loss on Friday night to take a 25-30, 30-25, 30-18, 30-25 win over Stony Brook on Saturday afternoon.

Porosa had 21 kills in the match with just three errors on 43 attacks. She hit .419 in the match and had 18 digs as the Patriots improved to 5-3. Chantal Bodkin-Clarke and Marie Skelton played tremendous at the net as well, with Skelton hitting .300 on 20 attacks and recording five block assists. Bodkin-Clarke did even better, with 12 kills on 23 attacks, a .391 hitting percentage and four solo blocks and six block assists. Kristen Byler had 13 digs and Zulma Rojas had 11 digs. Jesica Umansky led the team with 20 digs and 50 assists.

Stony Brook (7-6) hit well in the first two games, with a .263 mark in the first game and a .239 mark in the second. But the Seawolves hit just .000 in the third game and .100 in the fourth game. They managed just four total blocks to Mason's 14.

Maria Samilo had a team-high 13 kills as well as three block assists. Abby Egan had 19 digs, Claire Lindner had 18 digs and Danielle MacKnight had 10 kills. Julie Zub had 23 assists, nine digs and six kills with a .545 hitting percentage.

Mason plays in the nightcap against Rutgers and has slim hopes at winning the title. A 3-0 win over the Scarlet Knights could bring Mason the championship, depending on how Towson performs earlier against Stony Brook. A Rutgers win gives the Scarlet Knights the tournament title, outright.
