FAIRFAX, Va. - George Mason's men's basketball program has been selected to participate in the 2004 Coaches vs. Cancer Classic, The Gazelle Group announced Tuesday. The Patriots, who have advanced to the postseason four times in the last six years, including an NIT invite last season, will play IPFW in regional action Thursday, Nov. 11 in Memphis, Tenn. at a time to be determined. The winner will face either host Memphis or Savannah State for the regional championship Saturday, Nov. 13., also at a time to be determined.

The Coaches vs. Cancer Classic, the nation's premier preseason college basketball tournament, takes on a new expanded format this season as this year's event features 16 teams from 16 conferences competing at four regional sites hosted by Syracuse, Memphis, Cal and Mississippi State (in Birmingham, Ala.). Regional action begins November 11th - 13th. The winners from each site will advance to play in the Championship Rounds at Madison Square Garden in New York City on November 18th - 19th. All four Championship Round games will be nationally televised on ESPN2.
Other teams scheduled to participate at regional host sites include: Alabama A&M, Belmont, Birmingham-Southern, Bucknell, Fairfield, Northern Colorado, Princeton, St. Mary's and UC Riverside.
