George Mason junior Natalia Porosa has been named the Colonial Athletic Association Volleyball Player of the Week for her outstanding performance at the Florida State Invitational. Porosa led the Patriots to a 2-1 record including a five game victory over Florida State. She had 43 kills, 32 digs, seven aces and five blocks in 12 games played at the tournament, hitting for an average of .292. Porosa posted double-doubles in kills and digs against the host Seminoles (19 kills, 15 digs) and Winthrop (15 kills, 15 digs).
It is the first time Porosa has won the CAA honor. In 2001, she was a CAA Rookie of the Week. She currently leads the team with 76 kills, 3.17 kills per game and she is second on the squad with 61 digs. Her 11 service aces are third on the team and her .193 hitting percentage is fourth.
Porosa is a native of Scarborough, Ontario and a graduate of Mary Ward High School. She and the Patriots will be in action this weekend when they take on Towson, Stony Brook and Rutgers at the Patriot Invitational. The tournament begins Friday at 5 p.m. with Stony Brook taking on Rutgers. The Patriots face Towson at 7:30 p.m. in the CAA opener for both schools. On Saturday, Rutgers takes on Towson at 10:30 a.m., the Patriots face Stony Brook at 1 p.m., Towson takes on Stony Brook at 5 p.m. and the Patriots host Rutgers at 7:30 p.m.
