The George Mason University men's soccer team was unable to pull off a second-straight upset despite a late rally, falling to 23rd-ranked Seton Hall on Sunday, 5-3. The Patriots had beaten 10th-ranked St. John's on Friday, but couldn't muster another victory over a ranked team thanks to Pirate senior Jerrod Laventure, who scored three goals and had an assist. He also got help from freshman Yomar Gonzalex, who had two goals and an assist.

The Patriots (3-3-0) fell behind in the first half as Laventure scored in the 27th minutes on an assist from Gonzalez. Just two minutes later, Laventure returned the favor, assisting on Gonzalez' goal. The Patriots cut into the score in the second half when Anthony Noriega scored to make it 2-1. That's when Laventure countered with his second and third goals of the game to make it 4-1.

That's when the furious late-rally took place. First, Danny Climo's corner kick was headed by Damien Quinn, finding the foot of Damian O'Rourke, making it 4-2. Matt Mendy headed home a rebound off a Teba McKnight shot with less than five minutes to play. But it only took a few more minutes for Seton Hall to add an insurance goal as Gonzalez scored at the 86:39 mark to account for the final score.

The win helped Seton Hall (4-2-1) remain unbeaten at home dating back to October 27, 2002, a span of 12 games. SHU has gone 10-0-2 in that span. The Pirates controlled much of the action, out shooting the Patriots, 19-10 . Joyce had to make just one save for the Pirates to earn the win. O'Hara made five saves for the Patriots.

The Patriots return to action on Saturday, Sept. 25, when they play at George Washington at 4 p.m.
