The George Mason women's volleyball team traveled to Florida State for a two-day, three-match tournament and they started things off right with a 3-2 win over the host school on Friday night. The Patriots won the first set, narrowly lost the second and third sets, dominated the fourth set and squeaked out victory in the fifth set. The final score was 30-27, 30-32, 28-30, 30-23, 15-13.
Natalia Porosa had her finest match of the season, recording 19 kills with just five errors on 48 attacks. Jaqueline Kohler added 17 kills with just eight errors on 52 attacks. Jesica Umansky had 55 assists and 10 digs. Porosa added 14 digs and Kohler had 17 digs. Zulma Rojas added 19 digs. The Patriots hit .180 in the match, including .294 in the fifth set. The Seminoles hit .163 in the match but just .077 in the final set.
Amanda Santos had 18 kills and a .500 hitting percentage to pace Florida State. Jessica Skower added 57 assists but Kristen Rust had 15 kills and 11 errors on 44 attacks to go with 16 digs.
The Patriots (3-1) will have a chance to win the tournament title with a pair of wins on Saturday. They will take on Troy State on Saturday at 10 a.m. and Winthrop at 3 p.m.
