Fairfax, Va.--George Mason University senior goalkeeper John O'Hara (Foxford, Ireland) earned Third Team Preseason All-America honors as announced by College Soccer News.
In 2003, O'Hara started all 23 games for the Patriots in which he set a new school record for minutes played in a single season with 2,205. Last season, O'Hara was named to the All-Colonial Athletic Association First Team for the second-straight year, garnered All-Virginia first team honors and was also named to the Academic All-America University Division Second Team in District III. The Ireland native posted 10 full shutouts, as well as one shared this past year and compiled a conference second-best goals-against average of 0.98. O'Hara earned CAA co-Player of the Week honors on Oct. 7 after posting three shutouts against UNC, Hofstra and Drexel and was named to the Dean's List spring semester, as well as the Athletic Director's honor roll both semesters.
The Patriots closed out the 2003 season with an 11-6-6 overall record, along with a 4-2-3 mark in the conference for the Patriots' best effort on the field since 1998. Mason also advanced to the league championship game for the seventh time in school history and the first time since 1995.
The first game of the 2004 campaign for the Patriots will be a home contest against Longwood on Sept. 3 at 7 p.m.
