RICHMOND, Va. (July 1, 2004) (taken from www.caasports.com) - Former George Mason University men's basketball standout Mark Davis (2002-04) earned most valuable player honors, and five Colonial Athletic Association athletes received all-tournament accolades Friday at the VCU SportsCenter Invitational Showcase.
The Showcase, which was held at VCU's Siegel Center from June 28-30, featured 60 participants hoping to catch the eye of professional basketball scouts from the NBA, NBDL and European leagues. Seven former CAA players were in action and all performed well.
Davis, who was a second-team All-CAA choice in 2004 and 2003, averaged 27.0 points per game at the Showcase and led his team to a perfect 4-0 mark. The guard/forward from Springfield, Va. also averaged 4.5 rebounds, 4.3 assists and 2.3 steals, while shooting 53.1 percent from the field and 13-of-28 (46.4%) from three-point range.
Joining Davis on the all-tournament team were Drexel's Tim Whitworth, UNC Wilmington's Anthony Terrell, William & Mary's Zeb Cope and VCU's Troy Godwin. Also participating from the CAA were Delaware's Mike Ames and VCU's Willie Taylor, who completed his eligibility in 2003.
