Fairfax, Va.--George Mason head women's basketball coach Debbie Taneyhill has announced that guard Laura Kooij (Den Helder, Holland) will not return to the team for her senior season (2004-05) due to personal reasons.
During her career, Kooij played in 63 games, starting 46 of those contests, and averaged 10.6 points, 3.4 rebounds and 27.8 minutes per game. As a junior she set a single-season record in three-pointers made with 80 and also earned conference All-Academic honors. Kooij matched George Mason's record in made treys in a single game with seven against Hofstra (Feb. 1, 2003), which is also tied for fourth in the CAA for a single game effort from long range. In addition, Kooij earned CAA Player of the Week honors on Dec. 29, 2003 and was named to the Athletic Director's Honor Roll both semesters junior year, the Dean's List fall semester and earned the CAA Commissioner's Academic Award.
