Fairfax, Va.--George Mason University's women's basketball head coach Debbie Taneyhill has announced the hiring of Kristeena Alexander as an assistant coach as of July 1, 2004. Alexander will work mainly with the guards and will also play a large role in the recruiting process for the Patriots.
"We are very excited to have Kristeena join our coaching staff," said Taneyhill. "She brings a great wealth of basketball knowledge and experience having played collegiately at both Mason and George Washington. We are extremely glad to have Kristeena back in our basketball family at Mason."
Most recently, Alexander worked as a personal trainer at the Thomas Jefferson Community Center where she had been employed since September 2002. While at TJCC, Alexander was a trainer for a wide range of clients and developed training regiments to meet their individual goals.
Alexander attended Mason from Sept. 1996-Dec. 1997 before transferring to George Washington for her remaining years of eligibility. While with the Patriots, Alexander set a school record for free throws made and attempted free throws in a single game, going 20-for-20 from the charity stripe, which was also an NCAA record for the 1996-97 season. In addition, Alexander was named CAA Rookie of the Year.
At GWU, Alexander earned a two Atlantic 10 awards for the 1999-00 season as she was selected to the all-conference third team and also garnered the Sixth Man of the Year award. The following season, Alexander was named to the all-conference second team and the Colonials advanced to the NCAA Tournament Second Round for two consecutive seasons, 1999-01.
Alexander graduated from GWU in 2000 with a bachelor's degree in human services, and she also worked toward a Master's degree from the human resources graduate program during the 2000-01 season.
