Junior outside hitter Felix Campos has been one of the Eastern Intercollegiate Volleyball Association's top players this year and he was recognized for his feats for the second time this season when he was named EIVA Player of the Week on Tuesday for the week ending April 11.
Campos and the Patriots took the court twice last week, both times against EIVA foes and both times with a 3-0 victory as a result. On Thursday, the Patriots took on St. Francis (Pa.) and had little trouble as they cruised to a 30-22, 30-23, 30-21 win. Against St. Francis, Campos had 11 kills, seven digs, two aces, three assists and one block assist. In a 30-25, 31-29, 30-25 win over Rutgers-Newark, Campos had 21 kills, four digs, one ace and one block assist. He also had a .457 hitting percentage.
Campos led the team last week in kills (32), digs (11) and aces (3) and for the week, he averaged 6.0 points per game. For the year he is averaging 5.94 points per game, first in the EIVA and third in the NCAA (Divisions I and II), and 5.14 kills per game, second in the EIVA and NCAA (Divisions I and II).
Campos will lead the Patriots on Saturday against No. 7 Penn State in the UV Memorial Match as part of Alumni Weekend. It is the final regular-season match of the year and the final home match for seniors Dustin Crosby and Brad Kniewel. Win or lose, the Patriots are locked into the No. 5 seed in the EIVA Tournament and will begin play at Princeton on April 24 at a time to be determined. The Patriots have split with Princeton this year, losing 3-0 on the road and winning 3-1 at home.
