Box Score

WASHINGTON, D.C.--Four Patriots scored in double figures to help lead George Mason University's women's basketball team (2-3) to a 70-62 victory over BIG EAST member school, Georgetown (2-4), at McDonough Arena Wednesday evening in Washington, D.C.

Freshman guard Keyhana Wakefield led the team with 16 points and was one of two Patriots perfect from the line (6-6). Junior guard Jen Daniels netted a team second-best 15 points and did not miss from the charity stripe (10-10) against the Hoyas. Freshman Moni Akintunde came off the bench to score a team third-best 13 points and recorded her first career double-double as she pulled down a team-high 10 boards. Senior forward Lauren Hediger was the fourth Patriot to score in double figures as she collected 14 on the evening.

Hoya freshman Kieraah Marlow led all scorers with 26 points on 10-of-14 shooting. Senior Varda Tamoulianis recorded her second double-double of the season with 15 points and 11 rebounds.

The Hoyas started the game shooting well and playing good defense, commanding a lead as large as 12 points early in the first half. When the Hoyas lost their hot hand, the Patriots took advantage with a barrage of long bombs. George Mason finished the half with seven three pointers and a five point lead.

Georgetown defended the three point line more effectively in the second half, and fought back to regain the lead with four and a half minutes left in the game. The Patriots, fueled by five straight points by Daniels, regained a four-point lead with two minutes to play. The Hoyas were unable to score and turned to fouling, at which point Daniels and Wakefield hit four of four free throws each to seal the victory.

The Hoyas slightly out shot the Patriots 35%-33%, but were beaten from the three-point (38%-27%) and free throw (81%-67%) lines. The Hoyas held the rebounding edge 49-41.

The Patriots will return to action when they face Mount St. Mary's on Dec. 11 in Emmitsburg, Md. at 3 p.m.
