Women's Hoops Maintains Win Streak

Fairfax, Va.--Senior guard Lauren Hediger (Pittsburgh, Pa.) netted a season-high 15 points after shooting 3-5 from beyond the arc to help lead George Mason University's women's basketball team (4-3) to a 75-51 victory over Longwood (4-5) Tuesday evening at the Patriot Center.

Guard Tracy Ann Holness (So.; Brooklyn, N.Y.) poured in a game second-best 13 points, while freshman forward Moni Akintunde (Laurel, Md.) came off the bench to add 12 points for the Patriots after shooting 5-8 from the field. Junior guard Jen Daniels (Brigantine, N.J.) collected double digit points as well as she scored 10 and added three steals in 25 minutes of play. This marks the sixth-straight game in which at least three Patriots have scored in double figures.

Senior center Marita Meldere collected a double-double as she pulled down a game-high 15 rebounds and also added 11 points for Longwood. Junior forward Ashley Mason led all scorers as she netted 16 and also dished out three assists for the Lancers.

The Patriots shot 40 percent (26-64) on the night, while the Lancers garnered a shooting percentage of 35 (20-57). Mason scored 34 points in the paint to Longwood's 26, while the Lancers edged the Patriots on the boards, 44-41. The Patriots were able to capitalize on the Lancer's 29 turnovers as Mason collected 21 points from Longwood's giveaways.

The Patriots will return to action when they face the three-time defending NCAA National Champion, UConn, in Hartford, Conn. on Dec. 27 at 7 p.m.
