The Towson University Tigers defeated the George Mason Patriots 30-27, 30-23, 30-23 to win their 20th match of the season and record their fourth straight 20-win season. Towson improved to 20-7 overall, 11-1 in the Colonial Athletic Association (CAA). George Mason fell to 12-9, 6-6 CAA.
Three Tigers contributed double-digit kills, led by Meghan Evans and April Hoffman who each had 13. Evans hit a match-high .591 and also added three digs and two blocks. Hoffman posted six digs in addition to her kills. Senior Sarah Miller registered a double double with ten kills and 12 digs. She is two digs away from moving into fifth place all-time for the Tigers. Setter M.C. Coghlan tallied 36 assists and libero Christina Birog recorded a team-best 16 digs.
For the Patriots, opposite hitter Niki Bernardes led Mason with 12 kills and had nine digs. Freshman Jacqueline Kohler chipped in ten kills and hit a team-best .444. Setter Jesica Umansky added two service aces, a team-high 13 digs and a match-high 37 assists for the Patriots.
Towson had more firepower than Mason, particularly in the first game when the Tigers out-hit the Patriots .229 to .091. Towson finished the match with a .252 team hitting percentage while holding GMU to .142. But the Patriots held the defensive advantage, covering the floor well and out-digging the Tigers 52-46.
