FAIRFAX, Va. -- George Mason and James Madison played to a 1-1 double overtime tie in Colonial Athletic Association women's soccer action Saturday evening at George Mason Stadium. The Patriots pick up their first point in the league standings as they move to 5-6-2 overall (0-2-1 CAA), while the Dukes also earn a point, going to 0-1-2 in the conference (5-4-3 overall).

In a game marred by 33 combined fouls, five yellow cards, and several stoppages of play due to injuries, Mason got on the board first in the 17th minute behind junior midfielder Amy Sorenson (Albuquerque, N.M.) Junior midfielder Danielle MacDonald (Burke, Va.) sent a corner kick from the right side that found midfielder Amy Alecci (Jr.; Cockeysville, Md.)inside the box. Alecci touched pass to Sorenson, who turned and sent a shot into the lower right corner of the goal, giving Mason a 1-0 advantage.

Madison answered in the second period as sophomore forward Sarah Cebulski played a corner kick from the right side into the box in the 84th minute. A scramble for the ball ensued in front of the net, and junior midfielder Karly Skladany managed to come up with it, blasting a shot into the top left shelf to tie the contest at 1-all.

The Patriots controlled the first overtime, out shooting the Dukes, 3-0, but Madison responded in the second, taking a 4-1 edge in shots. The Dukes nearly put the game away in the second OT as Mason senior goalkeeper Sarah Coughlin (Hawthorne, N.Y.) came out to challenge Madison's Kara Dunston one-on-one on the left front side of the box. The decision to confront Dunston was effective enough as her altered shot hit the left post and dribbled across the front of the goal line before being collected by junior Mason defender Kristin Portell (Woodbridge, Va.) on the right side of the goal.

Coughlin finished with five saves, while Dukes' junior Jessica Hussey corralled four saves. Madison led 11-10 in shots and owned a 7-5 corner kick advantage.

George Mason continues its CAA slate next weekend with visits to Hofstra Friday, Oct. 15, at 7 p.m. and to Drexel Sunday, Oct. 17, at 1 p.m.
