Fairfax, Va.--George Mason University's men's soccer team dropped a 1-0 decision to UNC Wilmington in a Colonial Athletic Association match-up at George Mason Stadium Friday evening. With this loss, the Patriots fall to
6-4-1 overall (2-1 CAA), while the Seahawks improve to 8-2-1 (2-1 CAA).
Junior midfielder Nick Acosta scored the lone goal of the game for UNCW off of a pass from junior midfielder Adam Currey. Acosta took a hard shot from 15 yards out which made its way through Mason's defenders and sailed past senior goalkeeper John O'Hara (Foxford, Ireland) into the left corner of the net in the 38th minute of the contest.
Junior forward Teba McKnight (Couva, Trinidad) led the Patriots in shots
with five, which included three shots on goal, and senior Matt Mendy (MF; Banjul, Gambia) followed with a team second-best three shots.
O'Hara allowed one goal and amassed three saves for the Patriots, while sophomore goalkeeper Brad Knighton recorded six saves for the Seahawks in 90 minutes. Mason amassed 15 shots to UNCW's six and also tallied more corner kicks with six to the Seahawks' one.
The Patriots will return to action on Oct. 10 when they host #6 Virginia Commonwealth at 1 p .m. at George Mason Stadium.
