The George Mason women's volleyball team found itself trailing Virginia Commonwealth in the fifth game on Saturday night when Zulma Rojas stepped to the service line. The junior libero proceed to serve nine straight times as the Patriots rallied from a 7-2 deficit in the game to take a five-set win, defeating the Rams, 30-20, 27-30, 30-13, 27-30, 15-12.
Niki Bernardes led the Patriots with a team-high 17 kills, Natalia Porosa had 15 and Chantal Bodkin-Clarke had 12 kills. Marie Skelton had 13 kills and a .440 hitting percentage. Rojas finished with 19 digs and four service aces while Bernardes had 13 digs and Jaqueline Kohler had 11 digs. Senior setter Jesica Umansky had 55 assists and 16 digs. She had three service aces in the match to move into a tie for fourth-place on the school's career service aces list. Bodkin-Clarke also had one solo block and four block assists
George Mason improves to 12-8 overall and 6-5 in the conference, while the Rams fall to 5-18 overall and 1-9 in the Colonial Athletic Association.
The Patriots are off until Thursday when they play at Towson at 7:30 p.m.
